Why is the WorkPro 1000 Series such a popular ergonomic task chair for home office workers?

The main reason, we think, is that it’s a comfortable and modern office chair with all the adjustability and ergonomic options that most of us need.

And, although certainly not a cheap chair, the 1000 series is still priced reasonably for a high-quality task chair.

There are a lot of chairs like this on the market, though. So our goal with this review is to point out what makes this chair unique, while also identifying its flaws.

Hopefully, after reading this, you can make an informed decision and compare this chair to some of the other ergonomic task chairs out there.

Let’s get started with an overview of the aesthetics.

Aesthetics

The WorkPro 1000 Series is a black mesh task chair, so don’t expect too much in the way of aesthetics here. If you’re looking for a modern desk chair that will blend into pretty much any office environment, however, this chair will do the trick.

It does have a unique framework where the backrest is separate from the seat. The backrest is a transparent mesh surrounded by a thick squared off black nylon frame. The back also features a distinctive S-curve at the lumbar region.

All in all, this is a sleek looking chair – not too bulky and easy to combine with other similar chairs in a larger office environment, or fit into a small workspace at home.

Ergonomics

The term “ergonomic” is used pretty loosely these days when it comes to describing office chairs.

So, to assess whether a chair is truly designed with ergonomics in mind, we first look at the basic structure, materials, and adjustability options.

The WorkPro 1000 series features a comfortable and supportive design and a nice variety of adjustability options.

It’s not a plush office chair with lots of padding.

Rather, similar to a task chair like the HON Convergence, it’s focused on providing basic ergonomic support in the right places.

With this in mind, this chair is ready to take on the 8 – 10 hour work stretches that many of us grind through on a daily basis.

And while we’re working away and trying to stay comfortable, this chair allows us to move, adjust, recline, slide, and swivel.

It does this while helping you maintain a healthy posture with a tall and ergonomically designed backrest and natural lumbar support.

Summary of Adjustability Options

Here’s a quick summary of the adjustability options you’ll find on the WorkPro 1000 series, all easily accessible and within reach while sitting:

Height Adjustment: The WorkPro includes a pneumatic gas cylinder height adjuster with a range of 19 – 22.64 inches.Seat Depth Slider: This is a unique feature which allows you to change the depth of the seat via cable control mechanism. Many basic ergonomic task chairs do not include a depth adjustment option. This is a very nice feature.Recline: You can tilt back, lock into place, and control the tightness of the tilt.Armrests: You can raise, lower, or rotate the armrests to suit your needs based on your desk setup.

As for materials, like many modern computer task chairs, the 1000 series is covered in a synthetic breathable mesh material. This will keep you cool and ventilated throughout the day.

However, this mesh is firm, so don’t expect a soft cushy feel with lots of give. This material is really prized more for its functionality rather than its comfort or luxuriousness.

Mesh keeps chairs like the WorkPro light, airy, and budget-friendly. It is the preferred material in most office environments these days, so if you’re looking for a mid-back chair in a similar price bracket, you can expect a similar type of mesh on the backrest and seat.

In this case, the mesh is sufficient but not the most comfortable we’ve seen.

Base and Casters

The WorkPro 1000 Series has a standard 5-star based with 360-degree swivel capability. The frame is made of a durable and impact resistant black nylon material.

The base has nylon casters that are durable, easy to install and work well on most hard flooring office surfaces.

If you have soft carpeting, you may need different casters that allow for better mobility on cushier surfaces.

Overall, the frame and base are sturdy, durable, and understated. Yet, unlike other models in the WorkPro line-up, which we discuss in more detail below, you won’t find added style touches like aluminum, chrome, or other materials.

This chair is black from top-to-bottom. As such, and as we mentioned, it will fit into pretty much any office environment.

Recycled Material

This chair includes some environmentally friendly marketing jargon. Like a lot of office furniture these days, it promotes the eco-attributes and has even qualified for a couple eco-labels.

Although we’re never too sure about how much of this is just hype versus actual substance, this chair does make the specific claim that it is made from 95% post-consumer content.

Many chairs simply state that they are environmentally friendly without providing any actual evidence. So, at least the 1000 series promotes the recycled content aspect.

If this is important to you, we think this is a distinguishing feature of this chair compared to similarly priced ergo task chairs on the market.

Chair Assembly

The WorkPro 1000 Series Task Chair requires self-assembly since it will arrive in parts. But many buyers of the product have reported that the assembly of the chair is very straight forward.

Since some of the chair comes preassembled, assembling it is made easier than having to assemble it from scratch.

You simply attach the armrest, fit the casters on to the base, make sure the pneumatic cylinder is in place, and attach the seat unit to the base.

Most ergonomic chair manufacturers have made this process much easier than it used to be. The WorkPro 1000 Series is no exception.
